Blackhead Removal

WHY BLACKHEAD FORMS?

You want your skin usually glowing and gorgeous and the  skin in tip-top, camera-ready, and Instagram-approved shape.

The skin is like canvas, hence it is very important to keep things as simple as possible and to have a good base on which to build. Having a "good canvas" is essential to looking your best and "your makeup's always going to be bomb."

In order to achieve that "good canvas" so that makeup is, in fact, "bomb," she exfoliates with Bioderma Micellar Water. When swiped across the face with a cotton pad, it removes dirt and oil without stripping away moisture.

Since dead skin and blackheads are "always going to show on camera," it's essential to keep the pores free and clear of build up and other icky stuff.

Blackheads form when a clog or plug develops in the opening of hair follicles in your skin. Each follicle contains one hair and a sebaceous gland that produces oil. This oil, called sebum, helps keep your skin soft. Dead skin cells and oils collect in the opening to the skin follicle, producing a bump called a comedo. If the skin over the bump stays closed, the bump is called a whitehead. When the skin over the bump opens, exposure to the air causes it to look black and a blackhead forms.

  • the buildup of the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria on the skin
  • irritation of the hair follicles when dead skins cells don’t shed on a regular basis
  • undergoing hormonal changes that cause an increase in oil production during the teen years, during menstruation, or while taking birth control pills

DON'TS FOR BLACKHEADS

Hormonal triggers can make blackheads unavoidable, but some factors can increase the risk or make them worse.

Squeezing: Avoid squeezing blackheads, even with a metal blackhead remover, as this can irritate the skin and make the problem worse.

Steaming: A steam bath has long been recommended as a treatment for blackheads, on the basis that it "opens the pores." However, this has not been confirmed by research. Some people find it makes the problem worse.

Scrubbing: This can worsen the problem. Scrubbing removes sebum. The sebaceous glands then work harder to replace the sebum, leading to more blockages and the risk of inflammatory acne.

Removers: Removal strips, masks, and vacuums should be used with caution, as these can irritate and damage the skin if misused.

Makeup and cosmetics: Avoid oil-based makeups and skin care products
